A Little Christmas Present

Dec. 28th, 2006 | 03:43 am
location: Henriks House
mood: devious devious
music: Requiem of Dreams - The Lord of the Rings Soundtrack

Here's a little belated present for those who have been following my story 'Rebirth'. Think of it as a preview or a trailer for the rest of the story. It does contain some spoilers though so if you're really blah against that dont read it. May I point out though that I am a devious person and I love misdirection? Assumptions are such useful things when used correctly.

This is meant to tide you guys over until I get to writing once again, the second chapter has gone through two complete rewrites, I want to provide good writing and an epic experience, I apologize since that means its going to be slow, though it may cheer you to know that the chapter when done will clock in at around 10,000 words.

I also point out that this is comprised of little snippets of what will be going on later in the story,  they are in no specific order and despite what it may seem are quite decently spaced apart story wise.

The main story can be found be clicking on this link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3235317/1/

I do hope that the preview is suitably epic.

Sokka stood with his partner, back to back as a platoon of soldiers surrounded them. He grinned and behind him he knew Menzo did as well. In their minds Yue’s voice rang, distorted yet strong.

I am your shield.

            I am your sword.

 * * *

He felt her press her forehead against the base of his skull, her breathe coming in soft warm puffs against the back of his neck.

“Appa’s all I have left of my old life. He’s all I have left of…” His hands flexed and clenched into fists as he fought to keep his tears at bay. He felt her fingers slowly tangling themselves with his even as her other hand gently massaged his shoulder. When Katara slowly led him into the shade of a tree and reclined with his head in her lap Aang calmed; slowly drifting to sleep with her soothing voice in his ears and her cool hand in his.

* * *

Balancing on one of the many branches of the oak tree, Menzo set the arrow in his bow and smoothly pulled back.  There was a pause as he judged his target and released.

Five hundred feet away, another Fire Nation General died in the middle of giving a rousing speech to his troops.

 * * *

He floated in his mind, viewing the world as it passed below him. He watched as the beautiful blue and green was overtaken by a spreading grey and red, a fatal disease. White clouds turned gray and began to envelope the globe.

Yue stood by the Avatar, observing silently as fissures ripped through the lands, as earthquakes and volcanoes tore into it. A violent storm raged across the globe, covering nearly half of it at any one time. Her voice was ethereal, and it resonated within his mind as she left him with her final parting words.

“This, is the way that the world ends.”

 * * *

The family of rabbits, a mother and several of her children hopped about and tore at the sides of the stone lined pit, trying to escape. Aang stared at them, the horror of what he been ordered to do echoing within his mind.

One among these must die to feed us this night. You will choose which and you will land the blow. Choose carefully, the lives of more than one lies within your hands.

Behind him Menzo stood silently observing the young Avatar and wondering whether he would see beyond the brutal reality and make the correct choice.

 * * *

She ran, confused by the pounding steps of the thousands of men around her yet trusting in those that guided her to her target.

In a sudden change her mental picture cleared, allowing her to see for the first time the battle around her and the men that fell on both sides.

“Lady Toph! We’ve reached the door!”

She didn’t bother to reply simply turned and faced the gigantic metal doors. The smirk that adorned her face as she set to work would have made Azula herself worry.

They probably thought this dinky piece of metal could stop me.

 * * *

She observed the man kneeling before her, memories and knowledge filling her thoughts.

“I know you, your past. Your future.”

Menzo said nothing, joy surging him as he kneeled before the goddess he worshiped. Her voice continued after a moment, hesitant.

“You are Menzo, the Moonshadow.”

 * * *

Sokka smirked at the Princess of the Fire Nation as she circled around him. He was bound tightly to the chair and stripped naked, he knew there was no escape for him, not right now.

Another slap rocked his face, sharp nails leaving bleeding gashes on his cheek.

“You will tell me everything you know about the Avatar, his plans, and what my traitorous brother is doing as well.”

His smirk widened even as her razor sharp nails caressed his neck.

“I have defied gods, and demons. You’re nothing to me.” His smirk only grew as he was struck harder

 * * *

The Avatar stood calmly as he faced down the ruler of the Fire Nation. The silence stretched even as battle raged around them.

“Do you think you can beat me boy?”

Aang said nothing, simply brought up his loosely fisted hand as if giving something to the figure in front of him, and the silence was deafening as lightning crackled across his fingertips.

“Yes.”

NaNoWriMo Madness

Nov. 6th, 2006 | 03:37 am
location: Bed
mood: sleepy sleepy
music: Kismet - Bond

Right... I'm an idiot. NaNoWriMo is officially going to be the death of me, hell I think
I've developed a compulsive desire to write and muse and write some more. I'm writing a Sokkacentric au'ish thing that has a lot to do with second chances and taking the lessons learned from mistakes and applying them to your life. If anyone interested I have the first part of the prolugue up as the excerpt on my Nanowrimo authors page. I know there are a lot of people out there who write ten to thirty page chapters, and I love those authors, but hell if it isn't hard. I've garnered a new appreciation for them.

I have the desire to put up my prologue up on ff.net to see peoples reactions to my work, though if I do I wouldn't post anything else till after November. Which is sad, because I had a drabble in mind that was essentially a discussion between Aang, Iroh, Sokka and Katara on Zuko's sexuality, with Zuko present. This would naturally lead to the 'dare' which would in turn lead to more Zuko abuse and assorted hilarity.

But priorities first! Sent that idea to the backburner, Uni and NaNoWriMo are priority, in that order.

In other lovely news, crunch time starts now, I've got papers and exams sprinkled liberally through out the next two weeks. its going to be hell and I don't know if I'm going to have any juice left afterwards, so I hope at best to get one, maybe two drabbles written before then. Wish me luck.

Inspirational Moment

music: Kiss the Girl - The Little Mermaid

Have you ever had one of those moments, where you hear, see, understand something, and a tingle just runs up and down your spine and all of a sudden you're brimming with ideas thoughts and smiles, and you just can't wait to get down and write or do something to let it all out?

Yeah? This did it to me, I couldn't stop smiling throughout the entire song. :)

'Kiss the Girl' used to be one of my favorite songs as a child, along with 'Under the Sea'. Maybe I'm wierd, but I know I'm smiling now and I probably won't stop till tomorrow. Inspiration guides me, all it needs now is form.

~Edit~

Another video I found that put my mood right down to melancholy, the song brings up some rather bitter memories, despite which I like it. The video is also really well done, and it just has a really funny intro.

Yes… its… its… AALLLLIIIIIIVE!

*ahem*

For the few people who care, I am indeed alive, and relatively settled into the house. I apologize for the insanely long hiatus that has occurred between now and my last post (both here and on ff.net). However, sad as it is, moving in, university, and waiting for the Bell Canada internet connection to arrive made up a rather large portion of that time.

Of course, when I finally got internet, the first thing I did was look up Avatar, because I have no TV. Once it was downloaded I watched it.

First things first, while I am a Tykka fan, I’ll admit I find it a little bland, at the same time, when Suki first appeared; she grabbed my interest until she disappeared for an entire season. The pairing with Sokka is still waaay up in the air, and I don’t mind all that much, it leaves room for creativity.

When Suki first appeared in the episode it took me a split second to see where it was going. And for the next thirty seconds I couldn’t stop grinning and chanting ‘its Suki, its Suki, its Suki’ in my head before yelling out in jubilation when it was revealed. The kiss, honestly it surprised me though subconsciously I suppose I was expecting it to happen, that moment in front of the moon was interesting, and I don’t think anyone needed long to figure out why.

Tophs misunderstanding of her savior, to her reaction when she understood had me in tears from the sheer hilarity of it. Though I don’t know what to think of it, if it wasn’t a joke I think it may be a crush. Still gut-achingly funny though.

The Kataang moment had the inner Kataang shipper in me alternating from bouncing around my head like Aang on drugs or just laughing mockingly at all the Zutara shippers. Aangs comment on how much Katara meant to him was loaded. The Zutaraian ‘Happy Happy Land’ was suddenly populated by upside down smiles as their supply of self delusion drugs suddenly ran short. But don’t worry, they’ll bounce back, they always do.

Just like cockroaches.

XDDD.

Also, crazy battles, Katara going all iceman(woman?) on that mutant snake/dragon/eel thing, while likely making the marvel fans screech and roar in a lovely harmony, is awesome in my books. Toph just generally kicking ass, very nice; Aang rock punching Azula, nice reaction time there, and just generally cool beyond belief.

The interaction between Jet and Zuko was interesting, and I genuinely believe Jet wants to start anew, though old instincts probably still have a grip on him. We’ll have to see how it works out next episode before we can break out an opinion of his mental state.

It struck me halfway through the episode, this show seems to be getting more mature, and I like it.

On the writing side of things, I’ve given up on my promised drabble. I tried, and it’s not going anywhere and I’m just not feeling it. In the process I’ve already written two other drabbles, which will be sent of to the beta’s as soon as I reprocess them with a few new ideas and opinions.

In any case, its 3:34 am and my pillow is calling out to me. I’ll post again soon.

Of Flying Sardine Cans and Endless Paperwork

Aug. 29th, 2006 | 05:36 pm
location: Drews Couch
mood: 50% Alive 50% Alive
music: Remember the Name - Fort Minor

Woot, I’m in Canada, delirious, dehydrated, aching in places that really really hurt (a six foot two inch body does not fit well into the can of sardines that is coach class on long haul 16 hour flights) and after getting in at midnight and waiting an hour to get my damn luggage, I met up with my good friend Drew (he’s a lifesaver and an awesome person, if an ass sometimes) went to his basement and played on our respective DS-Lites until 5 am. Then I got up at 7:30(am) in order to head to my University with him to pick up my damn laptop, with which I am typing this now from said friends couch.

In a very odd, random and out of context statement, scarecrows are hip and apparently cows are adorable.

Writing is going to have to wait, a while. Moving in and getting my stuff organize to move into my house is going to take priority, though hopefully next week everything will be settled. I haven’t even hooked up my damn harddrive to this thing (naturally filled up with 60 gigs of non-existent porn my friends are all sure I have). So I’m listening to my friends music, seamlessly streamed through iTunes from his computer (gotta love technology and all that other good stuff). He has some decent music on it, for which I’m thankful. If there is anything I’m addicted to its music,

Now in an attempt to make a point in this pointless post, I am tired and delirious to the point that I could barely keep my eyes open while reading JoJoDancers ‘Princess and the Pebble’, which sucks because I’ve been looking forward to the next installment for so damn long. If you read this JoJoDancer, I swear I’ll read it and write proper review for it, really.

I’m going to write what I can in between collapsing and getting all my university crap done. And then there’s moving in… ugh.

Rant 001

Aug. 25th, 2006 | 05:16 am
location: In Happy Happy Land observing the Zutarians
mood: complacent complacent
music: Beanie Man ft. Akon - Girls

This is going to be a rant about Sozula. If you have no idea what Avatar the Last Airbender is, or you don't read fanfiction, go away this isn't for your eyes and you probably wouldn't be interested anyway.

Sozula, right, the ever so popular pairing of Sokka and Azula. In fact of all the other girls its possible for him to be paired with(Toph, Suki, Yue, Ty Lee) Azula is by far the most popular. Why?

While I find Sozula heartily amusing, I also find it the least likely pairing to *ever* occur. Azula is in Iroh's own words a 'psycho that needs to be put down'. This is a man who gave up everything, wealth, power, honor, and prestige, to follow and aid his bratty nephew in his time of need. Obviously family means something to him, and obviously, he's got a pretty good opinion on Azula's mental state. As such 90% of all the Sozula's I've read(which is most of them out there) have her wildly out of character. Maybe it could happen, with some really skillful character twisting and a few years for redemption, maybe. But I find death, or imprisonment a far more likely fate for her.

That doesn't mean I don't like them, they're well written and amusing but still none the less really, reaaally unlikely. Which brings me to another ship I support but is(in the name of a pun that only one of you will probably understand) severely underfed.

Tykka, or Ty Lokka, but I prefer Tykka. Ty Lee and Sokka. This pairing is far, faar more realistic than Sozula. Firstly, Ty Lee, like Mai, is likely a unwilling participant in the chase, she didn't kill Sokka when she had the chance, and she thinks he's cute. Thats three points in her favor as opposed to Azula's none. Despite this I continue to read and support Sozula Fanfics. In my opinion Tykka may be weak now but its Sozula that's going to be the underdog. Why? Because this is a medium for fantasy and creativity,and I'm rooting for the underdog while it lasts, because I have a feeling as the show moves on, more and more Tykka moments are going to appear and more and more people are going to start supporting that ship.

But that's my humble opinion, for viewing of the two, maybe three people who'll actually read this.

Have our mystery juice. It's safe... I think.

Well, I posted my second drabble, henceforth dubbed Cactus Juice. Its been sitting on my harddrive for little over a day, I planned to let it stew a bit so I could proof read easier, and damn did I find a lot of errors. I think I need a beta. Now that I think of it, it’s kind of sad I need a beta for drabbles, which by nature are meant to be quick snippets. Ah well. Oh, and the judicious application of cactus juice I mentioned in my previous post, I nearly ran out, writing this, so be prepared, assuming you read this prior to my drabble.

In a complete 360 of subject matter, six more days before I embark on my 36 hour trip to get to Canada from Bangladesh. Yeaaah, can I have the destination, sans the really long plane trip, annoying airport security and paper pushing? No? Damnit.

Have a nice day.

Firstus Postus

location: At home in Dhaka
mood: trippy trippy
music: Beanie Man ft. Mya - Girls dem Sugar

Erg. Wow, my Muse finally returned to me after a long and unplanned extended vacation. Naturally I chained her to my desk and drained as much creativity from her as I could. The result is a lovely new drabble of a crack pairing in the Avatar Fandom that has the potential for snarkiness, and one must always love the snarkiness.

It defines the definition of Zuko’s Manly Man Angst™ and Tophs ‘have you forgotten I’m blind you idiot?” personalities. When these two things come together wonderful things happen, the least of which is a handful of wonderful authors who love having a little ‘helpless’ blind girl pwning a big bad firebender. Manly Man Angst is of course very good at irritating ‘helpless’ little blind girls who happen to be master earth benders, thus leading to prior mentioned situations.

Can you feel the snark coming in waves? The potential for havoc is unquestionable with judicious application of Cactus Juice after all.

This is a friendly warning by the neighborhood Jonnoda.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

Have a nice day.

-Jonnoda

PS People who leave reviews get sneakpeaks at the next chapter. :P
